OSRAM Introduces Optimized White LED

Sunnyvale, CA; April 21, 2009. The Advanced Power TopLED Plus from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors is a new, optimized white LED designed for architectural and retail lighting. It combines high brightness and luminous efficiency up to 90 lm/W. The TopLED Plus is suited to applications that require bright light but have limited space (e.g., highlighting architectural edges and contours or illuminating surfaces in a uniform light).

The new LED has a luminous flux of up to 27 lm (100 mA/5700K). This is on average 15% brighter than the standard version and is available in different white tones ranging from 2700 to 6500 K. The TopLED Plus is an appropriate choice for illuminating the facades and outlines of buildings, as well as for lighting retail applications such as freezer cases and display shelves. It combines remarkable brightness with low power consumption and compact size, and its small dimensions enable light to be mixed in the smallest of spaces, producing a more homogenous light on a surface than would a few large LEDs. The Advanced Power TopLED Plus is specified for a connected load of up to 0.5 W. Heat is efficiently dissipated via gull-wing connections to the lead frame and the PCB, so there is no need for expensive thermal management.
