Motion Display Launches Moving Retail Signage

Uppsala, Sweden; March 24, 2009. Motion Display, a developer and manufacturer of advertising and promotional display technologies, has announced the launch of retail signage products for the point-of-purchase (POP) market. Under an agreement with E Ink Corp., Motion Display will design, manufacture, and assemble electronic signs using E Ink's Ink-In-Motion technology.

The new signs offer "a moving message on a paper-thin display," says Rickard Danielsson, Chief Executive Officer for Motion Display. While the signs don't show complex animation such as video, they can display simple, cartoon-like animations. Full color is achieved through overlays on the front of the display, and the appearance of movement occurs when different parts of the display turn on and off at preprogrammed intervals. According to Danielsson, a primary target for the technology is in-store marketing or POP displays that will catch customers' eyes through motion more than would a non-moving display.

The Ink-in-Motion electronic paper displays are thin, lightweight, flexible, and powered by small, rechargeable batteries with a lifetime of 4-9 months. The shatterproof organic display material has a lifetime of 50,000 hours. These displays use no backlight or frontlight and are designed to be easily viewed from any angle and under a wide range of lighting conditions. Motion Display can provide signs that are preprogrammed to change over time at the touch of a button: a sign for products could have options for 10%, 20%, or 40% off, for example.
