Report: Chunghwa Picture Closes Computer Monitor Plant (December 31)
Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd. (CPT) announced December 28 that it had halted production at a computer screen plant this month to cut costs, according to a report by WitsView Technology Corp., a Taiwanese market research firm.
The move makes CPT the first Taiwenese LCD panel maker to close a plant in the face of the worldwide economic slump, signaling that a slew of recently implemented cost-saving efforts, including unpaid leave, reduced working hours and lower factory utilization, may not be enough to help, WitsView reported.
CPT is the third largest LCD maker in Taiwan, behing AU Optronics and Chi Mei Optoelectronics.
