Display Week 2010 Goes Green
Energy efficiency, eco-friendly materials, and recyclability are key issues in current display development. Many display products, especially large-screen TVs, consume a great deal of energy and are difficult to recycle. In order to protect the environment and to comply with increasingly strict government regulations, display makers must develop products both large and small that consume less energy than the current generation, incorporate fewer toxic materials such as lead or mercury, and maximize the use of components that can be easily separated from each other for recycling at the end of product life. SID welcomes symposium papers in all fields of green display technology, including reduction of power consumption during operation, utilization of recyclable materials and components in display manufacture, innovative methods of display recycling, and other related topics.

Abstract Submissions Due December 1, 2009
Submissions are encouraged on the topics of reducing energy and material consumption, reducing waste and emissions, and reducing the use of materials that are harmful to the environment. The Society for Information Display welcomes symposium papers in the following categories:
*New Energy-Efficient Display Devices
*Novel Energy-Efficient Device Designs or Operating Methods
*Introduction of Low-Environmental-Impact Materials or Methods
*Product End-of-Life Recycling and Disposal Strategies
*Energy and Material Reduction in Manufacturing
*Cost Savings Related to Energy and Material Reduction
*Environmental Remediation
*Recycling or Treatment of Manufacturing-Waste Materials
*Use of Renewable Energy Sources in Manufacturing or Device Operation
This year's 2010 SID Technical Program organizers will be emphasizing the different developments and approaches that are leading the way toward further adoption of green technology in the display industry.
